Methodology: The M&A indicator is calculated by taking the average adjusted ratio of the deal value to the book value of individual firms. Adjusted deal value is calculated by dividing the deal value by the percent of shares acquired. Book value refers to the book value of assets of target firms. The same methodology can be applied to specific industries to calculate M&A indicator values for those industries.
Period of Coverage and Frequency: The indicator has been tracked since Q1 1995 to the present and is updated quarterly.
